After a sluggish first 10 minutes, Ohio State went on a 19-2 run and never slowed down en route to a 92-60 victory over Purdue Tuesday night at Value City Arena.
All eight Buckeyes inked their names in the scorebook as junior guard Ameryst Alston led the way with 26 points. It was her best game since scoring 27 in a route at Indiana on Jan. 8. Alston also grabbed seven rebounds and dished-out a season-high eight assists.
Freshman Kelsey Mitchell was 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points. Like Alston, she dished-out a season-high eight assists and also added eight rebounds.
The Buckeyes dominated in paint as well, as Alexa Hart scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds while Lisa Blair came off the bench to score six points, grab eight boards and swat a career-high six shots.
Ohio State had good ball movement on offense most of the night which led to 23 assists, one-off it’s season-high. Purdue had just four assists in the game which was a season-low.
The Boilermakers were led by Whitney Bays’ 24 points and six rebounds.
Ohio State shot over 49 percent for the game despite a slow start. The Bucks missed their first five shots and neither team could shake loose for the first 10 minutes. Leading 19-15, Alston and Mitchell knocked-down back-to-back three-pointers in a span of 22 seconds to ignite a huge Buckeye run. The spurt spanned the rest of the half leading to a 52-29 OSU lead.
Alston had 16 points while Alexa Hart with 7-of-8 from the floor for 15 points in the first 20 minutes.
The second half was more of the same. Ohio State came out on a 14-5 run and pushed the lead to 32 points in the first five minutes. Blair then got into the act with a couple of lay-ins and three blocks. Alston’s season-high tying fifth three-pointer of the game gave the Buckeyes their largest lead of the night at 87-52 with 5:41 left in the contest.
Med school student Amy Scullion came off the bench and knocked-down a three-pointer from the wing in the waning minutes to make sure everyone got into the book.
