Four members of the Marion Family YMCA’s Dolphin Swim Team will compete in the YMCA National Championship in Greensboro, NC April 4-8, 2016: Linsie Zhang, Ali McFarland, Madison Linstedt, and Gigi Gooding.  These four athletes have the opportunity to swim with the country’s best YMCA swimmers at Nationals. The Dolphins Swim Team is coached by Aquatics Director, Debbie Sheehan.

Madison Linstedt qualified in eight events, and will swim in five – the maximum allowed. Gigi Gooding will swim in the 100 Back and 100 Breast. Ali McFarland will swim the 100 Breast and 200 Breast. All four will swim in the 200 Medley Relay.

The Y will host a Meet the Nationals Swimmers Night & Send Off Event on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 5:15 – 6:00pm in the lobby of the YMCA at 645 Barks Rd. East where swimmers will be available to sign autographs.

The National Championship is the end of an overall successful season. Twelve members of the YMCA’s Dolphins competed in last weekend’s Great Lakes YMCA Zone Meet with over 70 teams from through the mid-east. As a team, they placed 25, with many athletes swimming personal bests. The 15 and Older Boys 200 Free Relay broke the Marion YMCA’s team record by three seconds. Relay team members were Ethan Hollenbaugh, Connor Miller, Max Mitchell, and Phillip Nicol. In all, 52 children ages five through 18 participated in the YMCA Dolphin Swim Team this season.

YMCA swim team participants develop confidence, build self-esteem, learn how to set goals, enjoy the spirit of competition, as well as the camaraderie of being on a team. The summer season begins in early May.
