The Ohio State University at Marion has received a “Silver” rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS) program.
STARS is a voluntary, self-reporting system that provides a framework for institutions to guide and evaluate their sustainability programming via a comprehensive, 135-criteria, peer-developed assessment. STARS criteria are used to assess institutional sustainability form a holistic standpoint spanning three broad categories: Education & Research; Operations; and Planning, Administration & Engagement. Institutions earn a rating of Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum derived from a final average score and supplemental Innovation points.
In June of 2013, Ohio State Marion joined higher education institutions around the country (and beyond), intended to participate in the Association for the STARS program. The campus began collecting and reviewing sustainability data over the past six months.
According to Ohio State Marion Dean & Director Gregory S. Rose, this honor is another feather in the campus’ “sustainability cap” in addition to its recent Green Buckeye Certification in recognition of the work the campus does toward its goals of making Ohio State Marion a leader in improving sustainability and achieving greater energy efficiencies.
