Professor to discuss “Science Discourse in the Public” at Science Café

After a winter hiatus, The Ohio State University at Marion’s Science Café will resume Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 6 p.m. at The Warehouse restaurant in Marion with a discussion on science research and public discourse, with Dr. Emily Buck from The Ohio State University Department of Agricultural Communication, Education and Leadership.

With the many discussions of food safety, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and organics filling up the media, it has become increasingly important for us to understand how science is being represented and how consumers react to such science. Using issues like GMOs, Buck will discuss the current research being done on the agricultural side of communicating science and the challenges and success being seen.

Science Cafés involve a lively conversation with a scientist about current science topics. They are open to everyone and take place in casual settings like pubs and coffeehouses. The public is invited to this free presentation, where you can learn about the latest issues in science, meet new friends, speak your mind, and chat with a scientist about their research interests.

Marion Science Café meets at The Warehouse, 320 West Center Street, Marion, OH 43302. The restaurant will have plenty of fine food and drink for sale. Presentations begin at 6:00 p.m. but patrons are encourage to arrive earlier if they are interested in dining while at the event.

May’s Science Café features Dr. Steven Reiss, from Ohio State’s Department of Psychology, who will discuss the “Psychology Behind Religious Belief.”
