The Marion County Athletic Boosters is holding a Texas Hold 'Em Tournament on August 7. The buy-in will be $40 and the winner will receive at least a 34-percent payout. The top 10 players will be paid based on 200 players.
Winds Knock Over Semis, Barns, Cause Two Deaths
Winds reaching 70 mph knocked over three barns being renovated Wednesday at the state's largest egg farm, killing two workers, authorities said. Strong winds also blew down a 10-foot-high brick wall at a school construction site in Edgerton, near the Ohio-Indiana state line, killing a worker, and knocked three semitrailers onto their sides on U.S. 23 south of Marion.
Ohio Animal Shelter Does Not Plan Mass Kill
Authorities say Internet rumors that Summit County Animal Control is planning a mass kill of animals at the shelter are not true. Those rumors have been heard locally and Marion Online has received several messages from concerned people.
"Not only are we not going to euthanize animals, we are going to treat the move to the new facility as a training opportunity," Craig Stanley, director of administrative services, said Monday.
Federal Funds to Help Ohioans with Mortgages
The U.S. Department of Treasury has announced the approval of the Ohio Hardest-Hit Fund plan. The Ohio Housing Finance Agency will use the allocation of $172 million in federal foreclosure prevention funding to help families struggling to pay their mortgages.
Area Churches Providing Free School Supplies to Hundreds of Kids
Richland Road Church of Christ, Fite Memorial Baptist Church, and Trinity Baptist Church in Marion are giving away school supplies for local kids this Saturday and Sunday. Another event on Sunday includes four churches providing school supplies and other services for kids and adults. All of the events are free and open to the general public.

A monthly Caregiver Support Group covering issues with dementia is held the second Wednesday of every month at 3:00 pm at Day Spring Wesleyan Church, 2431 Marion-Mt Gilead Road.
Tours Providing Up Close and Informative Look at Local Prairies
Prairie tours of the Trella Romine Prairie Preserve, near Green Camp, and of the Claridon Prairie, located five miles east of Marion, will be conducted this month. The Trella Romine Preserve tour is on Sunday August 8 and the Claridon Tour will be held on Sunday August 15, each starting at 1:00 pm and continuing until 4:00 pm.
bluefusion Celebrates 2nd Birthday with Fundraiser
bluefusion entertainment is celebrating their second year of business. The family entertainment center opened their doors in August of 2008.

Sign-Ups Begin for Land Conservation Program
The wait is over for farmers and landowners seeking the opportunity to enroll their farmland in the popular Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). The agency is encouraging landowners to participate in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) program; CRP general enrollment will run through Friday, August 27.
Biker Run to Benefit Local Child
Brandon was born weighing 2 lbs. 7 oz. with Cerebral Palsy and given a 20% chance to live. Brandon is in a family of bikers and has dreamed of his own sidecar so he can be a part. To achieve this goal, Brandon will need his side car to have adaptive seating as well as a way to keep him cool so he does not dehydrate.
