Ohio's unemployment rate was 7.2 percent in July, unchanged from June, according to data released by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS). Ohio's nonfarm wage and salary employment increased 11,000 over the month from the revised 5,176,100 in June to 5,187,100 in July.
Palace Theatre Showing “Madagascar 3”
The Marion Palace Theatre will show the animated film "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" on the final weekend of summer break for school children and their families.
Two Local Prairie Tours Offered
Two prairie tours, the first of the Claridon Prairie located five miles east of Marion, and the other of the Trella Romine Prairie Preserve near Green Camp will be conducted this year. The Claridon Tour is on Sunday August 19 and the Trella Romine Preserve tour will be held on Sunday August 26, each starting at 1:00 P.M and continuing until approximately 3 P.M.

The Marion Popcorn Festival’s Orville Redenbacher Parade is set to step off at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 6; and entry forms are due by this Friday, August 17. The theme for this year’s event is “The Wild, Wild West”.

Two Arrested for Marion Aggravated Burglary
The Chief of the Marion Police Department stopped a vehicle Wednesday after police received a tip regarding to suspicious people. That tip resulted in the arrest of two individuals accused of a burglary that had occurred a short time earlier.
Order Creates Statewide Uniform Early Voting Hours
Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted on Wednesday yielded to mounting state and national criticism of Ohio's uneven early voting rules, ordering that voting hours be the same across the state.
The Republican directed Ohio's 88 county boards of election to adhere to these hours of operation during the 35-day early voting period: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the first three weeks, and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the final two weeks.
Redistricting Change Ballot Language Approved
The proposed redistricting reform amendment will appear as Issue 2 on the Nov. 6 ballot, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted announced Wednesday at the Ohio Ballot Board’s meeting.
The board voted along party lines to approve a summary of the amendment. Both Democrats on the five-member board voted against the ballot language, which was prepared by Republican Husted’s staff.
One Flown to Columbus Hospital Following Marion Crash
Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 7:37pm. The crash, which occurred on State Route 95 at the intersection of State Route 203, resulted in one driver being flown by helicopter to a Columbus hospital.
Summer Italian Fest to Benefit United Way
The inaugural Rosa & Rocco’s Summer Italian Fest is scheduled from noon until midnight this Saturday, August 18, at Rosa & Rocco’s on McMahan Boulevard. All proceeds from the event will go to benefit United Way of Marion County.
