Water Rates to Increase for Marion Customers

Water and sewer rates are scheduled to increase for customers of the recently sold Ohio American Water (OAW) after the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) Wednesday approved a settlement between the utility and the PUCO Staff.

The rate increase will be lower than what OAW, now known as Aqua Ohio Water Company, originally proposed as a result of negotiations among the utility, the Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC), and the PUCO Staff in two related cases.

Palace Theatre Seeking Volunteers

Wednesday, June 20 at 5:30pm in the Palace Theatre May Pavilion, Palace volunteer board member Tyler Pigman will meet with potential Palace volunteers during an orientation session.  The Palace hopes to build a volunteer corps with people ranging from juniors in high school to retirees that wish to give back to the community.

Ohio AG Applauds Passage of New Human Trafficking Bill

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today applauded the passage of a bill that will help rescue and protect children who have fallen prey to human traffickers in Ohio.

The bill, which would increase penalties for perpetrators of human trafficking and increase help available for victims, is now on its way to Governor John Kasich for his signature.

State Bill Would Create Harsher Penalties for “Johns”

House Bill 262, after swift approval by a legislative committee and the Ohio Senate yesterday, is scheduled for a final concurrence vote in the House today. If it passes, Gov. John Kasich is expected to sign it into law.

Dog Collar Stolen from Harding Home

The Marion Police Department is investigating a break-in at the Harding Home. Police say a dog collar made for President Warren G. Harding’s Airedale Terrier appears to be the only thing taken. This is the first such incident to have occurred at the Harding Home in at least the last 20 years.

State Senator Holding Workforce Town Hall Meeting

In cooperation with Marion Technical College, State Senator Dave Burke is hosting a two-hour town hall panel discussion on Thursday, June 14th from 10:00am to Noon at the college.  The panel will discuss the $50 million dollar incumbent workforce training voucher program that is planned for implementation by the State of Ohio.
