Four Big Community Events, Fundraisers Set for this Weekend

This weekend is annually one of the biggest for Marion. Events this weekend include Relay for Life, Winfield Poker Run, Cruisin’ for Dialysis, and the Hot Tamale Bike Tour. They mean thousands of visitors and huge impact for local charities as each one of the events serves as a fundraiser for one or more other groups.

Organizations Come Together to Send Kids to Clippers Game

Several organizations came together to provide 22 Marion children a special day of baseball and memories. Thanks to their generosity, the Boys & Girls Club of Marion County members got to experience the Columbus Clippers game as part of Marion Day on Sunday, May 20.

Marion Salvation Army Holding Produce Give Away

The Salvation Army, located at 317 West Church Street, will be having a free produce giveaway on Friday, June 1 from 11:00am to 1:00pm. You must be able to sign an income eligibility form.

Real Estate Tax Bills Mailed Out, Due June 8

Second half 2011 real estate tax bills were mailed out last week and are due Wednesday, June 20th to avoid penalty according to Marion County Treasurer, Jan Draper.

Taxpayers who have not received their tax bills by Friday, June 8th are urged to call the Treasurer’s Office at 223-4030, Monday through Thursday, 9:00am to 4:00pm and Friday, 8:30am to 12:30pm.

May Kicks-Off Trauma Season

Nationally this summer nearly three million children will be rushed to emergency rooms for serious injuries resulting from motor vehicle crashes, drowning, bike crashes, pedestrian incidents, falls and other hazards.

Trauma Season is the time when injuries tend to peak during the summer months (May-August) for children ages 14 and younger, so the Ohio Division of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is encouraging parents and caregivers to take extra precaution while children are participating in activities.

Palace Theatre, Humane Society Team Up to Promote “Annie” Musical

The award-winning Broadway musical Annie will be performed on the Marion Palace Theatre stage July 2012. Preparation began early for the fun-filled musical adventure when the role of Annie's dog "Sandy" was cast with the help of the Marion Area Humane Society.

Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Offering in Marion

Rid your home of toxic waste at the DKMM Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day this Saturday, June 2nd, from 9:00am to 1:00pm at Whirlpool Corporation on Marion-Agosta Road. All residents of the DKMM (Delaware, Knox, Marion and Morrow) Solid Waste District can take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of corrosives, flammables, and poisons such as household cleaners, pool chemicals, batteries, kerosene, automotive fluids, pesticides, propane cylinders, fertilizers, mercury, and ammunition (50 calibers or less).

Former Ohio Secretary of State to Appear at Local Fundraiser

Former Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner will be the featured guest Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at a fundraising event in support of Jim Slagle’s campaign for Marion County Common Pleas Court Judge. The event will be held 5:30pm to 7:30pm, at the home of Dr. Jay and Janice Moodley, 1195 Pineridge Drive in Marion.

Sportsman Club Holding Fishing Derby

The Meeker Sportsman Club will hold it's annual fishing derby on Saturday, June 2nd. Registration and orientation is from 9:00 to 9:30am. The event is  free for kids up to 12 years of age.

Fishing will be followed by a free lunch and door prizes. Gear, bait, lunch and door prizes are proved with the help of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Patrol Traffic Stops, OVI and Drug Arrests Up Over Holiday Weekend

The Ohio State Highway Patrol made more traffic stops and impaired driving and drug arrests this Memorial Day weekend compared to the 2011 holiday weekend. In addition, 11 people lost their lives over the weekend- a four year low for the reporting period.
