Gates and Sanner Join MGH Foundation Board

Daryl Gates, president and CEO of The Morral Companies, and Robert Sanner, assistant vice president for mortgage lending at Fahey Bank, have been named to the Marion General Hospital Foundation Board of Directors.

Both have been appointed to serve a three-year term, according to Phyllis S. Butterworth, director of development for the Foundation.

Marion Could Receive Nearly $500k for Demolition Program

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine last week announced guidelines for local communities interested in applying for the $75 million in demolition grants to help stabilize and improve communities by removing blighted and abandoned homes. Marion County has been allocated $459,359.

Clippers Holding Marion Day

The Columbus Clippers minor league baseball team is holding a Marion Day to benefit the Marion Noon Kiwanis as part of their game on Sunday, May 20, 2012 against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees. The day will include lots of Marion history and highlights and will also feature the Marionaires Barbershop Chorus signing the National Anthem.

MCF Awards $100K in Scholarships with More Coming

Marion Community Foundation has announced its 2012 Scholarship Program awards of $100,000 among 85 scholarships which will be given to local high school graduates and college students. An additional $20,000 will soon be awarded to the Wopat Scholars.

OCC Calls for Changes to AEP Rate Plan

Water Company Continues Hydrant Flushing

Aqua Ohio’s Marion Division (recently acquired from Ohio American Water) will conduct water main flushing in the Marion County service area Monday, May 7 through Friday, May 11 between 8:00 am and 12:30 am.

State Route 95 Closed at State Route 98

The Ohio Department of Transportation says State Route 95 is now closed in both directions at State Route 98 to allow for culvert replacement. The road is expected to remain closed through May 18.

The posted detour is State Route 98 north to State Route 309 west to US 23 south to State Route 95 or reverse.

State of Ohio Revenues Continue to Increase

State tax coffers continue to swell, backed by a surging April in which personal income tax receipts were nearly 7 percent higher than expected.

For the month of April — always a key month because that's when most people file their tax returns — state tax receipts exceeded projections by $84 million, bringing the state's surplus revenue to $350 million this fiscal year.
