Motorcycle Awareness Month Promotes “Sharing the Road”

The American Motorcycle Association (AMA) is urging all road users to look around, check your mirrors, and consciously watch for motorcycles during Motorcycle Awareness Month in May 2012. This month’s outreach is an annual effort by the motorcycling community, particularly since in many states like Ohio few motorcycles were on the road in the winter and early spring months.

Marion Campus Prairie Plant Sale is Saturday

The Larry R. Yoder Prairie Nature Center will hold their eighth annual Prairie Plant Sale on the first floor of Morrill Hall, Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the Ohio State Marion campus, 1465 Mount Vernon Avenue. Once you enter the campus, follow the signs for the sale and for parking.

Marion Democrats Look to Fill Open City Council Seat

Mike Thomas, chair of the Marion County Democratic Party, has announced Central Committee members of Marion City’s 4th Ward will meet May 8, 2012 at 6:30pm at Democratic Headquarters, 1585 Harding Highway East, to fill the vacancy on Marion City Council.

Harding Students compete in Envirothon

Students from Northwest Ohio met recently at the Northwest Ohio Area 1 Envirothon at the 4-H Camp Palmer in Fulton County. There were a total of 62 teams from Northwest Ohio that competed. Both Harding High School teams that participated placed in the top fifteen.

Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Offered

You can rid your home of toxic waste at the DKMM Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, May 5th from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Morrow County Fairgrounds (US Route 42, Mt. Gilead). All residents of the DKMM (Delaware, Knox, Marion and Morrow) Solid Waste District can take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of household hazardous waste.

Wood Wanted for Probation Violation

The Marion County Adult Probation Department is seeking 27-year-old Clayton Wood for a probation violation. He is a white male, 6'2" tall and 160 lbs with brown eyes and brown hair. His last known address is 303 Executive Dr. Apt L in Marion.

Bill Would Ban Texting for Adults, All Handheld Devices for Teens

Ohio is one step closer to becoming the 38th state to ban texting while driving and the first to prevent its youngest drivers from talking or typing on any hand-held electronic device.

The bill says drivers younger than 18 cannot use any hand-held electronic device — such as cellphones, tablets and GPS direction-finders — and makes it a primary offense.
