Elgin students, who participate in an engineering program through Tri-Rivers and Marion Technical College, won the Ohio State SkillsUSA Mobile Robotics contest on April 27-28 in Columbus. Seniors Dustin Foster, Nick Dunn and Eric Napper beat the 2011 defending state champs and national participant, The Technology Center of Fremont, 105 to 50 over three matches.

Number of Online Ohio Job Ads Hits 7-Year High
The number of online help-wanted ads in Ohio is at its highest level since 2005, reflecting a surge in demand for workers across the state, The Conference Board reported Monday.
The number of online advertised vacancies in Ohio grew by 7,000 to 188,900 in April — the highest level since the nonprofit business research group has been tracking such data for the past seven years.
Genealogy Society Presents First Family Awards
The Marion Area Genealogy Society (MAGS) held its 26th Annual Banquet on Saturday, April 7, 2012. First Family of Marion County awards were presented to Mary Reinhart, Stuart Koblentz, Martin Shelton, Rachel Shelton, and Michael McLaughlin. Their ancestors’ surnames included Fickle, Free, Gregory, Harvey, Spangler, Tipton, Uncapher, and Williams.
Week of Events Planned for OSUM’s International Festival
The Ohio State University at Marion will host its 5th Annual Taste of Culture International Festival on Wednesday, May 9, from 4:30pm to 8:00pm, at the Alber Student Center on the Marion campus. There are also several events planned leading up to the Taste of Culture.
Police Arrest Two During Home Invasion
The Marion Police Department says they arrested two teenagers in the act of a home invasion early Tuesday, May 1. Officials say the pair threatened to kill the 93-year-old woman residing in the home.
Wild Turkey Harvest Up Over 1,000 During First Week
Ohio hunters harvested a preliminary total of 8,898 bearded wild turkeys during the first week of the spring turkey-hunting season, which is open statewide through May 20, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Last year hunters checked 7,744 wild turkeys during the first week of the season.

Ohioans are encouraged to take advantage of "Free Fishing Days" on May 5-6 and experience the great fishing Ohio has to offer. For these two days only, Ohio anglers may fish in any of the state's public waters without having to buy a fishing license.
Downed Power Lines Cause Highway Closure
Update – State Route 4 re-opened at about 9:20am Tuesday.
State Route 4 in Marion County had to be closed overnight between US 23 and Kenton-Galion Road due to power lines laying across the roadway. The power lines and several utility poles were blown down during a thunderstorm around 8:30pm Monday evening.
Over 180 lbs of Pills Collected at Medication Drop Off
Rain and hail did not stop Marion County citizens from driving to the back of the Marion County Building on Center Street Saturday to get rid of unused medication as part of the area’s fourth Medication Disposal Day. Angela Carbetta, Director of Recycling and Litter Prevention noted that a wide range of items were turned in including liquids, syringes and needles, pills, medicated jell and patches.
