HEAP Summer Crisis Program Begins Thursday

Ohio Department of Development Director Lisa Patt-McDaniel says funding to assist eligible households with summer cooling costs through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Summer Crisis Program is available July 1, 2010 through August 31, 2010.

Canned Food, Senior Citizens, and Veterans Day at Fair

The Marion County Fair really gets going today (Monday) as public events get underway. Visitors can get free admission today for bringing canned food with them or simply being a senior citizen or veteran.

Concert Series at Meeker Sportsman Club

The Meeker Sportsman Club is hosting a series of “House Concerts” for an up close and personal performance with artists from across the country. This type of concert is typically held in a home, back yard or small private space which makes for a unique and interactive experience.

Two Killed in Marion County Crash

Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a crash that occurred Saturday, June 6, at 10:20 pm. The crash killed two people and took place on State Route 4 north of Newmans Cardington Road.

Long Agenda Awaits City Council Monday

Marion City Council meets on Monday to discuss a long agenda, including nine ordinances that call for issuing new bond notes. Before the full Council meets, two committees will meet and that could mean even more things for the full Council to discuss.

Monday is Seniors’ Day at Marion County Fair

The Marion County Fair is celebrating 160 years in our community, and once again Marion General Hospital says they are proudly co-sponsoring Seniors’ Day at the Fair in partnership with Kingston Residence and the Marion Council on Aging.

US 23 Lane Closure Begins Monday

Starting Monday, June 28, US Route 23 will be reduced to one lane in each direction in various sections between Linn-Hipsher Road and the Wyandot County line. The closures will be from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm for pavement repair. The work is expected to be completed by July 9.

All work is weather dependent and it may be postponed or cancelled without prior notice.

Amateur Radio Club Holding Field Day

The Marion Amateur Radio Club is holding their annual Field Day this weekend. From 2:00 pm Saturday to 2:00 pm Sunday, local radio enthusiasts will be at Sawyer-Ludwig Park providing demonstrations and the chance to try out this long-time hobby and emergency communication.

State Moves to Shut Down “Sham Charity”

Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray is seeking emergency court orders to prevent Ohioans' contributions from being collected by a Florida-based "veterans" charity being investigated by several states. He also noted troubling revelations that the man who appears to have orchestrated this sham charity made hundreds of thousands of dollars in political contributions to candidates throughout the United States and in Ohio.

Celebrate Summer Returns for 18th Year

Saturday, June 26, is the 18th Annual Celebrate Summer Festival in downtown Marion. Events run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. New this year though is entertainment at the Palace Theatre at 7:00 pm.

In addition to the art and kids events, this will be the second year that The Marion Historical Society has sponsored the Antique Car and Truck show which will be featured along Center Street.
