A six-story-tall statue of Jesus Christ with his arms raised along a highway was struck by lightning in a thunderstorm Monday night and burned to the ground, police said.

The Friends of the Marion Public Library annual book sale is June 19, and 20 at Tri-Rivers Career Center, 2222 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road. The Friends have been collecting good clean books and audio visual material the past several weeks for this event.

Prospect Area Boy Scout Troop Begins Summer Activities
Troop 100 of Southern Marion County has begun its 2010 summer events schedule. Any boy ages 11 – 18 are welcome to join in on the adventure at any time no matter where they live.
The events planned include camping one weekend per month, hiking one Saturday per month, Thursday Night Bicycle Tours, Zip line tour in Hocking Hills, fishing trips, Boy Scout Summer Camp the week of July 11, and much more.

A Flag Day ceremony, hosted by Marion Elks Lodge 32, will be held at Founder’s Park in on Church Street in downtown Marion at 6:30 pm on Flag Day, Monday, June 14th. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Marion City Council will start early on Monday, June 14, with a meeting of the Streets and Sewers Committee at 7:00 pm. The full Council will then meet at 7:30 pm.
State Route 98 Closing For Railroad Repair
State Route 98 will close on Monday, June 14, between State Route 309 and Ulsh Road starting at 7:00 am for railroad repair. The posted detour is State Route 98 to State Route 309 to US 23 to State Route 4 to State Route 98 or reverse.
