Warning Issued Over Handling Wild Animals

Marion Public Health is issuing an advisory to all citizens throughout the Marion City and County areas regarding any type of interaction or contact with wild animals. The health department has received several bite reports from people taking in wild animals.

City Council Committees Meet Monday

Several Marion City Council Committees meet Monday, June 7. Items up for discussion include the demolition of abandoned properties in the City, job descriptions, changing an alley to one-way, and more.

Two Marion Roads Closing For Construction

Two Marion County roads will be closed for part of this coming week due to construction at train crossings. All work is weather dependent; it may be postponed or cancelled without prior notice.

18th Annual Cruisin’ for Dialysis Is Saturday

The annual Cruisin’ for Dialysis is in downtown Marion Saturday, June 5. Vehicle registration runs from noon to 3:00 pm at Marion City Hall with events all day long.

The New Whiskey River Band will play from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. There will be a large raffle, including a 50” plasma television donated by Showplace Rent-To-Own. Cars will shoot the loop and awards will be given out at 6:00 pm.

McDonald’s Shrek Glasses Recalled

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with McDonald’s, has announced a voluntary recall of the “Shrek Forever After 3D” Collectable Drinking Glasses that the restaurant has been selling. Consumers should stop using the glasses immediately.

Hundreds Expected In Marion For Annual Poker Run

The 6th Annual Brandy Winfield Memorial Poker Run roars to life on Saturday with the departure of motorcycles at 12:00 pm and the parade of motorcycles through Marion upon returning. Before that, a more somber memorial service will be held at Winfield’s grave tonight (Friday).

Time Running Out To Apply For Tax Break

Senior citizens and disabled homeowners who are not already enrolled in the property tax relief program known as the homestead exemption have until Monday, June 7 to sign up for the 2010 tax year, according to the Ohio Department of Taxation.

Ohio Lawmakers Pass Casino Rules

State lawmakers missed their deadline by a few hours, but did pass regulations for four new Ohio casinos at around 4:00 am Friday.

The new legislation calls for an 21 and over age rule, bans against free drinks and smoking and a closing time similar to bars of 2:30 am. Lawmakers had already agreed in earlier rule versions to require payouts on slot machines be at least 85 percent.

Annual Yard Sale At Marion Senior Center

On Friday, June 4th, the Marion Senior Center is holding their annual “inside” Yard Sale in the cool comfort of the Senior Center. The sale begins at 8:30am and ends at 1:30pm.

Lunch will be served from 11:00am until noon. The menu is sandwich, salad, dessert and a beverage which will be sold a la carte.

Drug Trafficker Wanted For Probation Violation

The Marion County Adult Probation Department is seeking Terrance Scott, aka "T". Scott is originally from the Detroit area and has prior weapon and drug trafficking charges so officials are urging the public to use caution.
