Governor hopeful John Kasich said Tuesday he would replace the state Department of Development with a nonprofit board of business leaders if he's elected in November.

State Touts Jobs Provided Through Construction Projects

With President Obama in Columbus last week to mark the 10,000th Recovery Act road project in the nation to get underway, preliminary figures from the Ohio Department of Transportation show that nearly 7,000 construction workers had jobs on Ohio’s stimulus-funded transportation projects in May – earning $8.5 million in paychecks in a single month.

State’s Unemployment Rate Down Slightly

Ohio's unemployment rate was 10.7 percent in May, down from 10.9 percent in April, according to data released by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Ohio’s nonfarm wage and salary employment increased 17,100 over the month, from the revised 5,035,400 in April to 5,052,500 in May.

Survey Seeks Workforce Needs For Marion

Marion CANDO is currently conducting a business survey of Marion area businesses to try and determine the workforce needs and wants of the local business community.

Open Interviews For Full-Time Whirlpool Jobs

Marion County Job & Family Services, in partnership with Kelly Services, is conducting open interviews for full-time production/assembly positions with Whirlpool’s Marion Division.

The interviews will be held on Tuesday, April 27, from 1:00pm to 7:00pm at First Church of the Nazarene, 233 West Church Street in Marion.

Minimum qualifications for the positions include:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Pass Drug Screen/Background Check
• Available for All Shifts + OT
• Must be Able to Pass Aptitude Test

Free Career and Education Fair at Marion Campus

Students, alumni, and members of the area community are invited to attend the Marion Campus Career and Education Fair, Tuesday, April 20, 2010. To date the event has approximately 50 area employers, education agencies, colleges and universities signed up to participate.
