Order Creates Statewide Uniform Early Voting Hours

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted on Wednesday yielded to mounting state and national criticism of Ohio's uneven early voting rules, ordering that voting hours be the same across the state.

The Republican directed Ohio's 88 county boards of election to adhere to these hours of operation during the 35-day early voting period: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the first three weeks, and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the final two weeks.

Redistricting Change Ballot Language Approved

The proposed redistricting reform amendment will appear as Issue 2 on the Nov. 6 ballot, Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted announced Wednesday at the Ohio Ballot Board’s meeting.

The board voted along party lines to approve a summary of the amendment. Both Democrats on the five-member board voted against the ballot language, which was prepared by Republican Husted’s staff.

Ohio AG Releases State Sex Trafficking Report

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine Wednesday released a report outlining findings of an Ohio sex trafficking study that centered around 328 self-identified human trafficking victims.

The report, issued by the Attorney General's Human Trafficking Commission and authored by commission member and University of Toledo Professor Celia Williamson, took more than a year to compile and focuses on minor and adult sex trafficking across the state.

Claridon Man Charged After BCI Raid

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says a Marion County man is facing several charges after Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) agents raided a home in Claridon Township last month.

State Liquor Sales Break Record

Bruce D. Stevenson, Superintendent of Ohio Division of Liquor Control (Division), announced that spirituous liquor dollar sales reached a record level of $825 million in Fiscal Year 2012.  This was an increase of $54 million (7%) over the previous year.  The Division also realized an increase of $14 million (5.9%) in net profit, for a total of $251.4 million.

Public Comments Sought on Fish and Wildlife Rules

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources' (ODNR) Division of Wildlife is holding open house meetings in all five districts to discuss proposed rule changes to Ohio's fish and wildlife rules. The meetings will be Saturday, August 11, from 12-3 p.m. and are open to the public.
