Navy Vice Admiral to Visit Marion Campus
On September 4, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. in the Health Technology Center auditorium of Marion Technical College, Vice Admiral James "Phil" Wisecup of the United States Navy will be visiting the Marion campus as part of the Navy 50/50 project. As part of the 50/50 program, 50 Navy leaders will visit 50 cities across the United States to meet with corporate executives, civic leaders, government officials, non-profit executive directors, interested community members, college faculty, administrators, and students.
Ohio Expands Education Benefits for Veterans’ Families
Under a new Ohio law, the spouse or dependents of deceased veterans who move to Ohio receive immediate in-state tuition rates as opposed to waiting 12 months to establish residency.
Currently, under the Ohio G.I. Promise, veterans with one year of honorable service, their spouse and dependents that move to Ohio are immediately considered in-state residents for the purposes of tuition, state educational subsidies and financial aid. Active duty, guard, reserve servicemembers, and their families are also eligible for this educational benefit.
Tuesday is Kids and Veterans Day at the Marion Fair
On Tuesday, July 3, the Marion County Fair is celebrating Kids Day and Veterans Day. Kids 12 and under will be admitted for free from 8:00am to 2:00pm. Veterans will be admitted for free from 8:00am to 6:00pm with military ID or discharge papers.

Annual Memorial Day Ceremony, Celebration Set for Marion
The annual Memorial Day celebration takes place in Marion on Monday, May 28. The ceremony will begin at 10:30am at Marion Cemetery on Delaware Avenue. If you cannot make it out the cemetery, you can listen to live coverage on radio stations WDCM-FM 97.5 or WMRN-AM 1490.
Ohio Veterans Can Apply for Cash Bonus Program
Ohio Governor Ted Strickland, Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray, Ohio Treasurer Kevin Boyce and Ohio Department of Veterans Services Director Bill Hartnett Tuesday launched the Ohio Veterans Bonus program in Columbus.
An estimated 200,000 Ohio residents are eligible for the Ohio Veterans Bonus.
