Auditions Set for Palace Production of “Annie”

Clare Cooke, George Schram, Kristi Wink, and Johnny Steiner announce auditions for the Palace Theatre’s summer musical Annie. Those interested may audition on Saturday, May 19 & Sunday, May 20.  Auditions are from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. each day in the May Pavilion.  Participants should enter through the front Pavilion doors.

Marion Church Holding Spring Bazaar

Trinity Baptist Church, 244 South Main Street in Marion, will hold a Spring Bazaar on Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in the Christian Center adjacent to the Church. All proceeds will go toward the repair of the Church elevator.

Community Effort Results in Bike Lanes, Sidewalks for State Route 95

After receiving over 60 comments from Marion residents regarding a project to improve safety on State Route 95, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has made changes to their plans, including the addition of bike lanes and some sidewalks. Over half of the comments received specifically address those two issues.

Public Input Sought for Marion Tallgrass Trail

Monday, April 2, 2012 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, the board of the Marion County Park District will host a public participation meeting in the conference room at the Marion Family YMCA. The meeting is an effort to gather public input on the Marion Tallgrass Trail and to provide information on the future growth of the bike and walking trail.

Marion Boys & Girls Club Invites You to Go the Distance

The Boys & Girls Club of Marion County is inviting everyone to “Go the Distance” for local kids and join them for their 5k Run/Walk and Kid’s Fun Run on Saturday, April 7, 2012. Proceeds from the run/walk will help the non-profit group in their efforts to provide assistance to children in Marion.

Judge Candidate Holding Chili Cookoff Fundraiser

A chili cook off fundraiser will be held Friday, March 30, from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at the F.O.P. Lodge just west of Caledonia (5327 Harding Highway  East).  The fundraiser is to support Kevin P. Collins, the independent  candidate for Marion County Common Pleas Judge.

Free eTutoring to Expand in Ohio

Ohio Board of Regents has announced expanded access to free online tutoring for students enrolled in Ohios university system. While eTutoring has been offered on 21 college campuses in Ohio, beginning this year all public and private institutions of higher learning in the state will be invited to join the Ohio eTutoring Collaborative, free of charge to the university and free of charge to students.

Marion Unemployment Rate Down Slightly

The unemployment rate for Marion County was down slightly in February to 9.3 percent from 9.5 percent in January. The decrease appears to be more of a result of individuals leaving the local workforce than they are a reflection on more people being hired.

The slight rate reduction comes on the heels of a 1 percent increase in January, but is still well below the rate for February 2011 of 10.5 percent.

Popcorn Festival Picks Wild West Theme

The Marion Popcorn Festival’s Orville Redenbacher Parade is set to step off at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 6.  The theme for this year’s event will be “The Wild, Wild West”.
