Marion Elks Holding Annual Soccer Shoot

Marion Elks Lodge No. 32 will hold their eighth annual Soccer Shoot on Saturday, May 15th at Glenwood Park, located at the south end of Latourette Street.  Registration will start at 9:45 PM, with the Soccer Shoot starting at 10:00 AM. The Elks Soccer Shoot is free of charge and is open to all boys and girls under the age of fourteen.

Marion Altrusa Holding Shopping Extravaganza

The Altrusa Club of Marion is hosting the second annual “PARTY” shopping extravaganza. Vendors from most home party companies and many local small businesses will be on hand.

Free to the public, this event will be May 6, 2010, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Tri Rivers JVS in the multi-purpose room.

Study – Healthcare Costs High After Abuse Ends

Victims of domestic violence endure significantly higher health costs than other women for three years after the abuse ends, a new study finds.

Abuse victims had health care costs that averaged more than $1,200 above non-abused women for the first two years after the abuse ended and about $400 above others in the third year.

Senate Candidate Holding Marion Meet and Greet

WBC Meeting Going To The Dogs

The final luncheon meeting of the season for the Women’s Business Council is “going to the dogs — and cats.” After the meal the Marion County Humane Society’s program will feature some adoptable friends who presently live at the society. Learn about the non-profit’s drive to care for our abandoned furry friends, and what it takes to run the day-to-day operations.

Change For City Yard Waste Drop Off

The City of Marion Administration is announcing a change to its free yard waste drop off program.

Effective Monday, May 3, 2010, grass and yard waste will only be accepted at Park Enterprise Construction Co.’s facility, which is located at 560 Barks Road West.  Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Grass and yard waste will no longer be accepted at the city garage facility after April 30, 2010.

Driver In Fatal Crash Was Legally Drunk

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says that toxicology reports show the driver who caused a fatal crash in Marion County a month and a half ago was legally drunk.

On March 10, 2010, troopers from the Marion Patrol Post investigated a double fatality crash on State Route 4 between State Route 203 and Prospect-Upper Sandusky Road, in Marion County.

In the crash, Justin R. Shelton, age 29, of Richwood and Richard W. Baker, age 38, of Marion were both killed. The patrol says the preliminary investigation revealed that Shelton drove left of center striking Baker.

Hospital Offers Heart Healthy Eating Class

Marion General Hospital’s registered dietitians want you to learn how to become heart healthy by learning how to eat healthy. To do this, they have developed a class that helps with grocery shopping, reading labels, making healthier food choices, as well as how to prepare them in a healthy manner.

This free class is slated for 5:00pm, Wednesday, May 5, and will be held in the Morrow room on the ground floor of the hospital.

Healthy snacks will be provided.

Long Agenda For Marion City Council

Marion City Council will hold committee meetings prior to their regular meeting on Monday, April 26.

Jobs & Economic Development will meet at 6:30pm. They will discuss the suggested projects for the annual neighborhood revitalization funds with Evelyn Cummings of Marion Regional Planning.

Municipal Services, Parks & Recreation will meet at 7:00pm to discuss updating the job description for the position of custodian.
