YMCA Kicking Off West Side Community Center Activities

The Marion Family YMCA will kick off the new West Side Community Center activities, targeted towards individuals living in the west side of Marion, with an open house at the Rushmore Academy school building, 1665 Amherst Drive, on Wednesday, April 4 from 3:30pm to 4:45pm and from 7:15pm to 8:00pm.

Red Cross Holding Babysitter’s Training Class

The American Red Cross – Marion County Chapter – will present its Babysitter’s Training class, Saturday, April 7, 2012, at The Alber Red Cross Center, 1849 Summerset Drive. The training runs from 9:00am to 4:00pm.

MTC’s ABLE to Offer Free ESOL Online Program

Marion Technical College’s ABLE program is set to offer an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) online program. Those interested in the program will enroll by attending a one orientation session at the Marion Campus. This class prepares students to enroll in the English for speakers of other languages online program.

Marion County Republican Party officers were elected and Central and Executive committeemen were sworn in by Judge Robert Davidson at the bi-annual re-organizational meeting Tuesday, March 27, at GOP Headquarters. All positions are for a two-year term.

Open Enrollment Begins at Pleasant

The Pleasant Local School District Open Enrollment for the 2012-2013 School Year will begin on Monday, April 2, 2012 at 8:00 a.m.  Applications, available in the Administrative Office, 1107 Owens Road West, Marion, will be accepted until Monday, June 25, 2012.

Welfare rolls have fallen 18 percent in the past year as Ohio’s economy improves and the state steps up efforts to enforce federal requirements that those receiving a monthly assistance check are working or training for a job.

Failing to meet job and work-training requirements is now the No.1 reason for welfare recipients leaving the rolls.

Marion Holding First Week of Yard Waste Pickups

The City of Marion kicks off its 2012 yard waste program this week. Due to continued budget cuts in 2012, the City says this year’s program will essentially follow a once per month collection pattern, although some additional support may be available during April and May.
