Sheriff’s Office Upping Patrols For Prom Season

The Marion County Sheriff's Office will be participating in a countywide traffic detail targeting speed and alcohol related violations for the upcoming prom season.

Deputies will be conducting extra traffic enforcement and patrol starting this weekend and running through May 16. 

State Names Top Five Investment Scams

This year’s top five investment scams highlight the importance of educating Ohio investors not only during April’s observance of National Financial Literacy Month, but year-round.  Con artists and scams are a major focus for the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Securities in 2010, which launched the statewide “Con Artist” public awareness campaign in February.

Palace Theatre Holding Volunteer Orientation

Saturday, April 24 at 10:00am in the May Pavilion, the Palace Theatre will getting into the spirit of National Volunteer Week with a mandatory orientation session for all current and potential Palace volunteers.

For long-standing volunteers, this meeting will provide information about important changes, including dress code, procedures, and how individuals sign up to help at the Theatre.

Community Invited To “Picnic at Panorama”

A Harding High School tradition continues on May 1 and 2 when Panorama 2010 is presented in the high school cafetorium. The May 1 performance will be preceded by a Picnic at Panorama dinner.

Panorama debuted 43 years ago in 1967, and is a yearly variety showcase of many of the school’s talented vocal and instrumental students, often interwoven with some creative comedy, as well. Panorama 2010 will be presented at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, and at a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday, May 2.

Annual Tri-Rivers Plant Sale

The Annual Tri-Rivers Spring Plant Sale at the Garden Center will be open to the public Saturday, April 24 from 9:00am to 3:00pm. It will also be open Saturday, May 1, 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Annuals, vegetables, perennials, & herbs will be for sale.

The annual sale benefits programs at Tri-Rivers. Students work much of the year to grow the plants that are for sale.

Tri-Rivers is located at 2222 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road in Marion, across from Meijer.

Pleasant Firefighters Holding Pancake Breakfast

The Pleasant Township Firefighters are holding their annual pancake breakfast from 7:30am to 11:30am on Saturday, May 1 at the Pleasant Township Senior Center. 

Firefighters are asking residents to support this fundraiser and also to vote "yes" for the department's issue on the May 4 ballot.

The breakfast will feature raffle giveaways for a 50-inch flat screen TV and a bicycle for kids younger than 12. Winners do not need to be present.

Local businesses have donated lots of other raffle items as well.

Heroin Discovered In Jail Search

A search at the Multi-County Correctional Center resulted in the discovery of heroin and the re-arrest of a Kenton man. On Monday, April 19, around 6:00pm, the MARMET-METRICH Drug Task Force detectives and their K-9 Kilo conducted the drug search at the request of the jail director.

Water Company Continues Hydrant Flushing

Ohio American Water will conduct water main flushing in the Marion County service area through Friday, April 23 from 8 a.m. until 12:30 a.m.

The company conducts the annual maintenance program to assure high-quality water service and to ensure fire hydrants are operational.

According to Marion Operations Supervisor Don Scott, water main and fire hydrant flushing is an important part of a regular maintenance program for water distribution systems.  Ohio American Water consistently meets or exceeds all drinking water standards.

Marion Celebrates Earth Day With Two Clean Ups

Marion County Recycling and Litter Prevention is inviting the community to celebrate Earth Week with two clean-ups, one in downtown and one at a local park.

You can start off with Earth Day (Thursday, April 22) at Busby Park in Downtown Marion (the corner of East Center and Prospect Streets). From noon to 2:00pm, help clean up litter around the park.

Then on Saturday, April 24, join volunteers at Quarry Park (Hillman-Ford Road, north of West Fairground Street) from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

LaRue Man Arrested For Heroin

On Monday, April 19, at about 5:00pm, detectives with the MARMET-METRICH Drug Task Force observed the driver of a red Mustang in the 700 block of North Main Street in Marion. Detectives say the driver was allegedly involved in drug activity as they observed him.

MARMET detectives pulled the driver over in the 100 block of South State Street.
