75 Schools Coming to Annual College Night Event

Area high school students from central and north central Ohio, parents, and other interested adults are invited to attend the 38th Annual Marion Area College Night, Wednesday, September 25, 2013, 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the George H. Alber Student Center on the Marion campus.

The event, which is co-sponsored by The Ohio State University at Marion and Marion Technical College (MTC) each year focuses on connecting prospective college students and their parents from central and north central Ohio counties with a multitude of higher education opportunities.

Jane Galyk, Marion Technical College assistant director of admission, and Matt Moreau, Ohio State Marion’s director of enrollment management, plan the annual event in conjunction with area high school guidance counselors.

Some out-of-state schools will be represented as well. Those attending will have an opportunity to meet with more than 70 college and university representatives from Ohio and surrounding states. The representatives will be available to answer questions about specific academic programs, admission requirements, campus life, and financial aid opportunities at their colleges.

According to Moreau, it is expected that nearly 800-900 students and parents will be in attendance. Both Galyk and Moreau report that the Ohio Association of College Admissions Counselors has rated the Marion Area College Night as a well-planned college information program.

The event will follow an information open house format, including a special college admission and financial aid planning for parents and prospective students.

The open house format will be held at the George H. Alber Student Center from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Prospective students and their parents are encouraged to visit college information tables, collect literature, and ask questions about academic programs, campus life, and more.

A financial aid information session will be held in Maynard Hall, Guthery Community Room from 5:30 to 6 p.m., prior to the college fair, which will be held in the Alber Student Center Gymnasium, 6-7:30 p.m.

College Night is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Ohio State Marion at 740-725-6337, or Marion Technical College at 740-389-4636, extension 247.
