Joe A. Knappenberger, 77, of Marion

Joe A. Knappenberger of Marion wanted to go home, and he did. On Monday, June 6, 2011 after a short illness Joe went to be at peace with the Lord.

Joe was born on February 19, 1934 to the late Albert and Flora (Rush) Knappenberger at their home in Waldo.

He graduated from Waldo High School in 1951. Joe worked for Eaton Manufacturing and in his time there, he served in several different capacities until his retirement in 1996. After retiring from Eaton with 42 years of service, Barbara and Joe were blessed to spend cherished time together in their retirement.

On January 19, 1957, Joe was united in marriage to Barbara Hentze and this past January they celebrated 54 years of marriage. Joe and Barb were members of the Moose Lodge #889 and often times they could be found there dancing together and enjoying each others company. Joe was a member of the Salem Evangelical Church and the faith that took Joe home is the same faith that sustains his family now.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife Barbara (Hentze) Knappenberger; his children: Dan Knappenberger of Boise, Idaho and Kelly Lommerin of Vermilion, Ohio; his grandchildren: Alexis and Skyler Knappenberger; a sister Geraldine Daugherty of Marion and nieces and nephews.

Those who have gone before include his parents Albert and Flora Knappenberger and two siblings: an infant brother Jackie Knappenberger and a sister Betty Conklin.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 10, 2011 at Waldo Cemetery in Waldo at 11:30AM with Rev. J. Patrick Street officiating.

The Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home is honored to have been chosen to serve Joe’s family.
