The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife has launched its social media campaign by creating profiles on Facebook and Twitter. The public is invited to discuss hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing in Ohio on the division’s social media sites.

Man Scheduled to Die for Bucyrus Murders Maintains Innocence

Quentin Reeves was just 4 years old when he survived a 1994 shooting that killed three people and wounded two, including his sister.

A story from the AP says, despite his youth at the time, Reeves said he has no doubt today that Kevin Keith, scheduled to die next month for the triple slaying, was the man who opened fire.

County Revenue’s Outpacing Expenses

The latest figures show that Marion County is bringing in more money than it is spending. While these numbers can and do change daily, the Marion County Commissioners Tuesday expressed cautious hope that 2010 will continue on this course and end with a surplus in the General Fund.

Former Sheriff Named to Children Services Board

The Marion County Commissioners Tuesday approved the appointment of former Marion County Sheriff John Butterworth to the Marion County Children Services Board. Butterworth is replacing Russ Rigney, who resigned because of work commitments.

Cooking Contest Featured at Popcorn Festival

The Marion Popcorn Festival’s Recipe Contest will pop to the forefront once again.  Judging will take place on Thursday, September 9, at the Marion Popcorn Festival.

Mary Longo of the OSU Extension office who coordinates the event indicates it is a traditional cooking contest where the finished product must be edible and must contain popcorn.

Supect Killed, Officer Injured in Marysville Gunfire

Authorities in Ohio say a police chase ended with gunfire that left a man dead and at least one officer wounded.

The Union County Sheriff's Office says 22-year-old Ricky Diamond Jr. was killed Tuesday evening in an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement officers in Marysville.

Ohio Man Executed for Killing Three

Roderick Davie had a friendly chat with his co-worker, William John Everett, at a coffee shop in 1991. A week later, Davie murdered two other employees at a pet supply company, shot Everett in the head and tried to run him over with a truck.

City Fogging for Mosquitoes

The City of Marion will be fogging mosquitoes on Thursday or Friday, August 12th or 13th, from 4:00 am until 7:00 am, if weather conditions permit.

The areas that will be sprayed include: west Marion, southeast Marion, the Fairpark area, and the City Parks.

Algae Blooms Cause Closure of Three State Park Lakes

Officials have now put three Ohio state park lakes off limits because of toxic, blue-green algae blooming in the water.

A story from the AP says, warning signs were posted in recent days around Cutler Lake at Blue Rock State Park in eastern Ohio's Muskingum County. A park administrator says employees observed the algae for the first time on Aug. 1.
