Impaired Boaters to be Targeted in Nationwide Sweep

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources' (ODNR) Division of Watercraft is among many state and local marine patrol agencies participating in a nationwide crackdown on alcohol-impaired boating known as Operation Dry Water from June 22-24. This is the fourth year of the special marine enforcement effort initiated by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators.

OSUM Students Honored for Successes

The Ohio State University at Marion held their 41st Annual Academic Recognition Ceremony at the Marion Palace Theatre, Thursday, May 31, 2012.  Students earning an Associate of Arts Degree from The Ohio State University were formally recognized, in addition to a number of students for their academic success, and faculty for their contributions to teaching and research on the Marion campus.

Over 600 Named to MTC Dean’s List

Marion Technical College has named 636 full-time students to its Spring Term dean’s list. To qualify for the scholastic honor, a student must earn at least 3.5 out of a possible 4.0 academic average for the term and be enrolled at MTC as a full-time student.

Harden Sought for Probation Violation

The Marion County Adult Probation Department is seeking 30-year-old Robert Harden for a probation violation. He is a white male, 5'9" tall and 170 lbs with blue eyes and black hair. His last known address is 200 Fairfax Road, Apt E, in Marion.

Report – State School Funding Better Than Most

As the Ohio House prepares for another series of hearings on the school-funding formula next week, a new report shows that, from a national perspective, Ohio schools are doing better than most financially. Even so, there is a lot of room for improvement.

Charity Event to Help Woman Battling Cancer

Cross Creek Dental Care is hosting a charity event on Saturday, June 23, 2012 to raise support for a 21-year-old young lady who is battling cancer.  All proceeds will go directly to the family.

Council Committee Approves Income Tax for Gambling Winnings

The Marion City Council Finance Committee Tuesday approved adding wording to the City’s income tax rules. The change would cause city income tax to be assessed on winnings from games of chance, including from casinos, lotteries, and/or bingo.

Warning Issued Over Unclaimed Funds Scam

David Goodman, Director of the Ohio Department of Commerce, is warning Ohioans about an internet company that is apparently charging Ohioans for unclaimed funds searches and issuing fraudulent claim forms.
